good things for laptops [windows; make sure to read about compatability though]:

speedswitchxp [from mirror site or .de site]
mobmeter [from .jp site]

and something really cute:

miniaim.

it's simple. classic interface. you cant really customize it, but i think it's decent for a laptop because of it's simplicity and size. check the site ;]
